CAFÉ PARA PECADORES — Castillo Washed

Floridablanca, Santander, Colombia · Orlando Quintero · Cultivator & Processor

In 1834, a Catholic priest in Santander, Colombia made an unusual decision inside the confessional.

Instead of assigning Hail Marys, Father Francisco Romero gave his congregation a different kind of penance: go home and plant coffee trees. The more sins confessed, the more trees planted. His parishioners — motivated by the very human desire for absolution — went out and did exactly that. They planted. And planted. And planted some more.

What happened next changed Colombia forever. The coffee spread across the mountains of Santander so rapidly that the region became the first in the country to export and commercially distribute the crop. From Santander, the cultivation expanded to the rest of Colombia. The country the world knows today as one of the great coffee origins began, in large part, because of sinners looking for forgiveness.

That is the story behind the name. And the slogan comes straight from the Bible — John 8:7: "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." No stones have arrived. The coffee keeps getting made.

Café Para Pecadores was founded by Orlando Quintero, a cultivator and processor based in the Vereda Casiano Alto in Floridablanca, Santander — the same region where Father Romero's penance once spread across the mountains. Orlando grows and processes under his own label, with full control from harvest to bag. His network of alliances with growers across Santander — Zapatoca, Betulia, Tona, Pinchote, San Andrés — gives him access to some of the finest lots the department produces. The Castillo variety is the flagship: clean, honest, and deeply representative of what Santander's mountains can offer.

This is not a brand built on trends. It is a brand built on a 190-year-old story that happens to be true, documented in books, engraved in monuments, and celebrated in the very department where every bag is grown.

In the cup: A clean, balanced Castillo from Santander — smooth body, caramel sweetness, mild natural acidity, and the kind of finish that makes you understand why a priest once thought this crop was worth a confession.

Best brewed with: Chemex · French Press · Cold Brew — and if you're feeling bold, try it as a cold brew soda: cold brew concentrate over ice, topped with sparkling water. No penance required.

Specialty coffee · Castillo variety · Washed process · Medium roast · Floridablanca, Santander, Colombia · Orlando Quintero, cultivator & processor

    FAQ

What makes COFY different from other “specialty” coffees?

COFY is built around true origin control—from cultivation and selection to final roast and cup profile. Every coffee is SCA 80+, traceable to Colombia, and curated for a clean, premium pour-over experience. You’re not buying a bag—you’re buying a consistent ritual with the people behind the harvest.

Whole bean or ground, what’s best for me?

For peak aroma and clarity, we recommend whole bean (the premium choice).

If you prefer ground, choose the grind that matches your ritual:

    • Fine: espresso-style machines
    • Medium: drip / automatic brewer
    • Coarse: French press / cold brew

Not sure? Choose whole bean—it preserves freshness and gives you the most expressive cup.

How does the subscription work? Can I skip or change anytime?

Yes. Our subscription is designed to feel luxury and flexible, not restrictive. Choose your delivery cadence (every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks recommended), then manage everything from your account:

    • Skip a shipment
    • Pause anytime
    • Swap coffees (House ↔ Exotic)
    • Change grind preference

Subscribers receive 15% off, so your ritual stays consistent—and smarter.

Where do you ship from, how fast is delivery, and do you offer free shipping?

We ship from Hollywood, Florida using UPS/USPS. Delivery times vary by location based on carrier service, but we prioritize fast fulfillment and careful packing to protect the cup quality.

Free shipping applies on orders $40+ most customers reach it with two bags or a subscription.
